This three masted vessel belongs to the Uruguayan Navy, and it is used as a training ship. It was built in Cádiz, Spain, in 1930, as a cargo and passenger ship.

In 1958 it was refitted for the first time, so that it could be used as an exploration ship. In 1978 it was refitted for the second time, and since then it has been used for the training of officers. Capitán Miranda now travels all over the world as a ambassador for Uruguay, taking part in many international regattas.

It is 60 metres long, 8 metres wide and has a crew of 11 officers, 33 cadets and 40 sailors.
